3 Steps to Prioritize Farm Fresh Food

A Short Journey For Improved Health For Your Family

Boy Smiling in the Park

As a parent, there are few responsibilities that weigh as heavily on your heart as ensuring the health and well-being of your children, right?

While not quite as alarming as the time you couldn’t find them at the park, thinking “Holy smokes...where is little Billy or Suzie!” ... only to be super relieved to see they were momentarily hidden behind a trash can...or they decided to go sit in the car! (Yes, both happened to me).

Concerned about the abundance of processed foods, sugary snacks, chemical-laden ingredients and not actually knowing where your food comes from...scares the stuffing out of some parents.

You aren’t alone.

A large part of the American diet. Chips and video games.

Many families fall into the trap of convenience foods. Busy schedules and hectic lifestyles make it all too easy to rely on pre-packaged meals and fast food, sacrificing nutrition for the sake of convenience. Don’t beat yourself up. It happens.

But as you begin to see Billy needing a husky size or Suzie being cranky all the time, while their energy levels drop, their concentration wanes and their overall health suffers, you’re thinking “OK, what can I do?”.

I don’t have all the answers but have a few ideas that might help...

Be Kind

It’s time to prioritize nutrition and make a change for the better, right?

  • Everyone’s journey is different.

  • It won’t happen overnight.

  • Be kind to yourself.

  • Let time be your friend.

The gradual process of education, experimentation and commitment are three legs to your brand spankin’ new “Farm Fresh Stool”.

If one leg is missing, the stool falls over.

Research & Education

You can begin by researching the effects of processed foods and artificial ingredients and learning about the importance of whole, unprocessed foods in supporting optimal health. Armed with this info, you can begin to transform your family's diet one meal at a time.

Experiment

Assess your grocery shopping habits. Instead of your local grocery store, consider farmers' markets and local produce stands. Here, you may discover vibrant fruits and vegetables, freshly harvested and bursting with flavor. From crisp apples to leafy greens, each purchase will be a nice adventure and feel like a small victory.

Locating sources of sustainably raised meats, poultry and dairy products could be next. Next, connect with local farmers who prioritized ethical animal husbandry practices and avoid the use of antibiotics and hormones.

Knowing where your food comes from and how it was raised WILL give you peace of mind and allow you to support small-scale farmers who are committed to environmental stewardship and animal welfare.

Commitment

Transitioning to a farm-fresh diet also means embracing the art of home cooking. Instead of relying on pre-packaged meals and convenience foods, hopefully you will discover the joy of preparing meals using wholesome ingredients. If you hate cooking...it ain’t gonna happen. Sorry.

Involving your children in cooking goes a long way. Teaching them about the importance of fresh, nutritious foods and instilling a love of cooking will serve them well into adulthood.

When and if they help cook their veggies...odds are better they will eat ‘em. Bonus Time!

The results of your dietary transition can be remarkable

  • Increased energy levels

  • Improved moods

  • Improved health

  • Improved performance

Gone are the days of mid-afternoon sugar crashes and frequent trips to the doctor. Instead, your family will thrive on a diet rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, fueling your bodies and minds for the adventures that lie ahead.

Your decision to prioritize farm-fresh foods for your family has the power to heal and nourish your bodies...obviously. BUT, sourcing your food from farmers and ranchers that have regenerative mindsets also has a positive impact on the planet.

Regenerative farming may be a new concept for you. If so, we have several short articles or FAQs that touch upon it. Simply put, it’s growing food the way nature intended and not relying on synthetic chemicals and fertilizers.

As a parent, there is no greater gift than knowing that you are providing your children with the foundation for a lifetime of health and vitality.

Good luck. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
